Pets with Pets
Pets with Pets is a Melbourne, Australia-based noise punk and disco duo formed in February 2007 by Zayde Thring and Jannox Undermonds. The group develops a punk electronic sound, and its music is associated with indie, electronic, experimental and noise punk styles.
Background
The project begins as a response to a desire to make a punk-electronic sound that reflects a post-Frangston hangover. From its early years, Pets with Pets performs as a duo and is described as active in Australia, with its profile growing through underground attention.
Style and reception
Their sound combines angular post-punk guitar work with dance music's focus on groove, but with a rawer and more lo-fi approach than much dance-punk. Their track The Girl Up and Down draws comparisons with Die! Die! Die! and Tom Vek, while their music is also described as having shrieking vocals, swirling guitar build-ups and buzzing bass lines. The band also releases the Songs to Keep Her Dreams Unclean Demo.
Press and commentary
Pets with Pets attracts attention from music writers and bloggers, who single out their style, beats and attitude, and note their appeal on Melbourne dance floors. The group is also mentioned by name in remarks from NME's Alex Miller, Acid Jacks, The Riff in New York City and NothingVampz.com.
