Petite Noir

Petite Noir is the recording name of Yannick Ilunga, a South African-raised, Belgian-born, Congolese musician, singer, songwriter and record producer born in Brussels in 1990. He works in experimental and electronic music with lo-fi and soul influences.

Career

He begins his musical career in 2009 as one half of the duo Popskarr with record producer Terrence Pearce. Popskarr release several singles between 2009 and 2012, and no further material appears after that period.

As Petite Noir, he releases his first solo single, “Till We Ghosts”, in 2012. In the same year he also issues the non-album single “Disappear”, followed by “Noirse” in 2013. A 2014 track, “Chess”, later appears on both his debut EP and his debut album.

Releases

Petite Noir’s debut EP, The King of Anxiety, is released in January 2015. It includes “Till We Ghosts” and “Chess” as singles. His debut studio album, La vie est belle / Life Is Beautiful, follows in September 2015 on Domino Records’ Double Six imprint.

In 2018, he releases the mini-album La Maison Noir / The Black House.
