Pete Molinari is a singer-songwriter from Chatham, United Kingdom, with Egyptian and Maltese parentage. His music is rooted in folk blues and, more broadly, blues and jazz.
Career
He has been performing solo since 2001, developing his voice through shows in bars and cafes in New York’s East Village and in Chatham. His first release is Walking Off The Map (2006), issued on Damaged Goods. It is recorded live to half-track in Steven John Hamper’s kitchen, an approach that also brings in a small group of close collaborators on the record.
Collaborators and performance setup
On Walking Off The Map, Julie Hamper, also known as Nurse Julie, sings on “Alone and Forsaken” and duets with Molinari on “We Belong Together”. Julie Hamper is the wife of Billy Childish, also known as Steven John Hamper. In live performances, Molinari plays partly solo and partly in duet with Julie Hamper, with Jim Riley on blues harmonica and Wolf Howard on drums.
Style and image
Molinari is known for a distinctive vocal style. He also performs in a signature red hat.
