Perc

Perc is the performance name of Ali, also known as Spartak and Votion, a London-based techno producer with roots in Cambridge. He works across techno, IDM, industrial techno and noise, and his sound is identified with strong percussion and an abrasive edge that remains suited to the dance floor.

Early career and industry work

Before focusing on his own productions, he completes five years of training in music business and music production in Manchester and Newcastle. He then spends time at Platipus Records and later moves to Prime Distribution, where he becomes label manager for six in-house labels, including Primate, Primevil and Premier Sounds.

Releases and labels

His early releases and remixes appear on Easy Access and Silver Planet after James Holden champions his work and signs him to Easy Access. He goes on to release material on Choo-Choo, BXR, Premier Sounds, 19Box Japan, Limbo, Midset and Source Of Gravity. In 2003 he releases Life/Big Blue on Mara’s Choo-Choo Records and begins planning his own Perc-Trax imprint.

Perc draws on influences including Underground Resistance, Danny Tenaglia and drum and bass.
