Penguin Prison

Penguin Prison is the performance name used by Chris Glover, an artist from the Upper East Side in the United States. He first comes to attention as part of a college group called The Smartest People at Bard, whose demos attract the interest of Q-Tip and, through him, Interscope.

Glover later issues a solo album on Universal in 2009, but it does not gain much notice. In the same year he adopts the Penguin Prison name and begins building recognition through remixes for artists including Goldfrapp, Marina & the Diamonds and Passion Pit.

Sound and collaborators

He develops an electro-pop style with producer Dan Grech-Marguerat, whose other credits include Scissor Sisters and Radiohead. His work also includes further remix credits for Sébastien Tellier, Erik Hassle, Ellie Goulding, Jack Peñate, Golden Silvers, Jamiroquai, Faithless, Kimbra, The Temper Trap and Kylie Minogue.

Singles and labels

Penguin Prison releases early singles on the US indie label Neon Gold, starting with Animal Animal / A Funny Thing, followed by The worst it gets / Something I'm Not. A third single, Golden Train, appears on Wall of Sound. He later signs to Downtown Records in the US and Stranger Records in other territories, including the UK, Germany, Spain, Austria and Australia. Another release, Fair Warning, comes out first as a one-track download, with a B-side and remix bundle following later.
