Peepholes

Peepholes are a synth-pop group from Brighton, United Kingdom, formed in 2006 and active since then. The duo consists of Katia Barrett and Nick Carlisle.

Formation and lineup

Barrett performs drums and vocals, while Carlisle plays keyboards. The group forms in Brighton and London after the two musicians connect over a Chinese violin and a shared interest in very quiet music.

Sound and style

Peepholes develop a sound built from repeating synth lines, heavily worked rhythms and restrained vocals. Their music sits between underground punk and dance music, with cavernous atmospheres, echoing textures and a strong emphasis on repetition and rhythm. Their songs are described as cloaked anthems that balance melodic lift with abrasive and sometimes surreal shifts in mood.

Releases

Their recorded output includes the Lair 12-inch on Hungry For Power, Kingdom on Upset The Rhythm, Caligula on Upset The Rhythm, and The Overspill! on Upset The Rhythm. These releases establish the group within the UK independent and underground music circuit.
