Pedro Abrunhosa is a Portuguese musician from Porto, Portugal. Born in 1960, he begins his musical training in 1972 at the School of Music of Porto and later studies double bass from 1978. He goes on to teach double bass at the Hot Club of Lisbon’s School of Jazz and at the School of Music of Porto.
He is a founder of the School of Jazz of Porto, where he teaches harmony, ear training and ensemble music, and where he also establishes and conducts the school orchestra. He composes and performs music for films and plays.
Bandemónio and recordings
With the band Bandemónio, later identified as Pedro Abrunhosa & Os Bandemónio, he writes, composes and records his first album, Viagens, for Polygram. Across four original albums, the project reaches a total of 11 platinum records.
Awards
He receives four Blitz Awards, a Bordalo Press Award, a Golden Globe and several other prizes from radio stations and institutions.
