Peak is the solo project of Paolo Picone, an Italian electronic musician born in 1976 in the midlands of southern Italy. He begins his musical activity in 1991 as a drummer, and by 1995 he is composing electronic music using samplers, drum machines and MIDI sequencers.

Background and projects

Picone founds the Mou project in 2001. Mou is described as a dub and bass live act that gains attention in Italy and goes on to play alternative clubs and festivals including ArezzoWave, Leoncavallo, Officina99 and Agricantus. The project tours widely across Italy, with more than 50 performances in different regions.

In 2003, Picone founds the Soundabbast booking and events agency. Through it, he organises events with artists including Deadbeat, Burnt Friedman, Retina.it, Rechenzentrum and Marco Messina.

Peak as a solo name

Peak is also the cofounder of the Aquietbump netlabel, which launches in 2005. The first release under the Peak name is the So Quiet EP, which explores dub and landscape music. The project is associated with dub, ambient, industrial, rhythmic noise and progressive music.
