Pauw

Pauw is a Dutch neo-psychedelic rock group from the Netherlands, formed in 2012. The name is the Dutch word for peacock. The band grows out of a shared interest in 1960s and 1970s psychedelic music, when three friends from Twente begin jamming together.

Formation and early line-up

The first line-up features Rens Ottink on drums, Eszl du Vois on bass and organ, and Brian Pots on guitar and vocals. After their first session together, the group develops into Pauw. The members spend weeks rehearsing in an old pig barn to prepare their set. In 2014, they record demos in the same barn and submit them to Popronde.

Breakthrough and live activity

Following those demos, Pauw is booked for 38 shows at Popronde, which makes the group the most booked act in the festival’s history. Around the same period, they support Temples and Elephant Stone and play an aftershow for Kasabian. They also make radio and television appearances on 3FM, 3voor12 radio and De Wereld Draait Door.

Later membership

The band continues as a four-piece in 2015. Eszl du Vois returns on bass, and multi-instrumentalist Kees Braam, who has worked as the band’s roadie from the beginning, joins on keyboards. The later listed members include Brian Pots on vocals and guitar, Rens Ottink on drums, Roel Blommers on bass, and Seppl Kretz on keyboards.
