patten

patten is a UK electronic project headed by Damien Roach and based in London. The project works across music, design, installation, film, software programming, live performance and publishing, and also operates under the name 555-5555. It releases on 555-5555 and Warp.

Activity and development

patten begins performing at underground venues and issuing music on limited-edition CDRs and minidiscs in 2006. Since then, the project uses a range of live formats and line-ups, with approaches that include computer music, all-acoustic ensemble pieces, immersive audiovisual performances, DJ sets, and full band setups with bass, drums and guitar.

Style

The project’s work sits within electronic music and draws on idm, experimental, abstract and folktronica. Later recordings and performances move across techno, hip hop, ambient, club music, grime, pop and industrial.
