Part Chimp are a rock band from Camberwell, London, formed in 2000. The group’s sound sits in alternative rock, noise rock and related rock forms, with a strong noise element.
Formation and line-up
Part Chimp form around Tim Cedar, who sings and plays guitar, alongside Jon Hamilton, also known as Drumm Chimp, on drums. Hamilton comes from Ligament. Nick Pryor is an early member and leaves after the band’s first record. The current line-up also includes Iain Hinchliffe on guitar and Tracy Bellaries on bass.
Sound and recordings
The band is known for very loud performances and recordings. Their music is described as rock with noise elements, and their approach is often compared with the energy of a jam session between Sonic Youth and Lightning Bolt. Their releases appear in the UK, Europe and Japan on Rock Action Records, and in the United States on Monitor Records.
Broadcast appearances
Part Chimp also perform on a John Peel BBC session and appear on XFM radio.
