Parov Stelar
Parov Stelar is Marcus Füreder, a musician, DJ and producer from Linz, Austria, born in 1974. He begins as a nightclub DJ in the 1990s, then moves into production and label work. Early on, he records under the name Plasma and issues the 2001 album Shadow Kingdom on his Bushido label.
Music and career
He later adopts the name Parov Stelar, which becomes the main alias for a large body of work released through the 2000s and 2010s, much of it on his Etage Noir label. His music centres on electro swing, with a sound that draws on electronic production and sampling, and it appears in compilation and DJ-mix settings, including Stéphane Pompougnac’s Hôtel Costes series. His credited genres also include house, nu jazz and trip hop.
Albums and chart releases
In 2013 he signs to Island for The Art of Sampling, his second album to reach the Top 10 of the Ö3 Austria Top 40 chart. He follows it with The Demon Diaries in 2015.
Awards and live work
During the mid-2010s, Parov Stelar wins several Amadeus Austrian Music Awards, including three in 2013 for Best Electronic Act, Best Live Act and Best Album for The Princess. He performs with the Parov Stelar Trio and the Parov Stelar Band, and tours extensively at festivals including Glastonbury and Zurich OpenAir.
