Paris Match

Paris Match (パリス・マッチ) is a Japanese jazz pop group active since 1998. It is centred on Tai Furusawa, Mari Mizuno and Yosuke Sugiyama, with Furusawa and Sugiyama founding the act and Mizuno joining as vocalist. The group’s name comes from a track on The Style Council’s album Café Bleu.

Formation and background

The group forms in Japan in 1998, when Tai Furusawa and Yosuke Sugiyama begin working together. Furusawa has experience as a DJ and composer and also organises club events. Sugiyama works as a producer, arranger and remixer. Mari Mizuno meets Sugiyama while both work at a radio station in Nagoya, and she becomes the group’s singer.

Style and recordings

Paris Match’s music combines pop, R&B, jazz and bossa nova, and it is classified as jazz pop. The group releases its first full-length album, volume one, in 2000. Its studio output includes PM2, type III, SONG FOR YOU, QUATTRO, ♭5, after six, Our Favourite Pop, Flight 7 and to the nines. It also issues compilation and special releases such as volume one plus, 5th Anniversary, BEST OF PARIS MATCH and remix & rare “WHITE”.

The group’s singles include “happy-go-round”, “DESERT MOON”, “KISS”, “DEEP INSIDE”, “Saturday”, “SUMMER BREEZE”, “Taiyō no kiss” (太陽の接吻), “Koi no kizashi” (恋の兆し) and “VOICE”.
