Pariah

Pariah is a Birmingham, United Kingdom electronica and drum and bass group active since 1997. The line-up consists of Rob Clinton, Phil Jones, Sean Martin and Marc Plested.

Background

The group sets up its studio in 1997 after saving for equipment and spends the following year learning to use it and developing its own sound. It then begins sending out its music and later works with LTJ Bukem. At one stage it is offered a major deal with Good Looking, but turns it down so the members can keep control of their work and continue exploring a wide range of styles within drum and bass. The members also all work full time, which limits their time for DJ work and production.

Recording history and style

Pariah releases music on labels including Looking Good Records and Strictly Digital Drum & Bass Recordings. Its output is described as drawing on the darker period of the mid-1990s, while also allowing for different approaches within the genre.
