Parastatic
Parastatic is a UK group active since 2011. It forms around three core members, Root Regulus, Neil and Jon, and later becomes a six-piece with the arrival of Richard, who adds surging rhythmic work and synthesised melodic elements. The group develops from a basement-based project and appears sporadically from there, with its sound described in terms of krautrock, space rock, post-rock and shoegaze.
Style and influences
The group takes cues from Loop and Spacemen 3, and its music is also linked to Neu!, Spiritualized, Holy Fuck, 65daysofstatic and Orbital. Its sound combines dual-guitar repetition, motorik rhythm, psychedelic textures and dance-oriented beats, with the result often described as trance-like and shoegaze-influenced.
Reception and releases
Parastatic receives media descriptions that highlight an “aura of shoegazey-goodness” and a trance-inducing quality. One of its singles, Far Beyond, is praised by Tom Robinson on BBC Introducing as “A Bangin Tune!”. The group also presents work under the title Lost Highway, described as an aural soundtrack built from spacerock, dance beats and psychedelic overtones.
