Papa M

Papa M is the recording name of David Pajo, an American musician born in Texas in 1968. He starts out playing guitar in the early 1980s and becomes known for his work in the post-rock band Slint, which he plays in from 1986 to 1990. His wider career includes work with King Kong, The Palace Brothers, Stereolab, Royal Trux, The For Carnation, Tortoise and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy during the 1990s, and he appears on many of their early records.

Solo projects and the M series

In 1995, Pajo begins the M franchise with a single and a split single. Under the name Aerial M, he releases several singles, a self-titled album and a remix album. As Papa M, he issues three full-length albums, beginning with Live from a Shark Cage in 1999. He later starts the Papa M singles series while he is a member of Zwan.

Other work and later releases

In 2002, Pajo joins Billy Corgan’s Zwan, with whom he releases an album and tours for two years. Hole of Burning Alms appears in 2004 and collects Aerial M and Papa M material, forming another link in the M sequence. After that, he records as Pajo. His self-titled first release as Pajo appears in 2005 and consists of solo recordings made on the road. He then releases 1968, part of a Pajo trilogy, followed by Scream With Me, a collection of acoustic Misfits covers released only on vinyl and download. He gives only a small number of live performances under the Pajo name.
