Pangaea is the dubstep and electronic project of Kevin McAuley from the United Kingdom. He begins making music as a schoolboy using a two-track mixer, a keyboard and a tape deck. After discovering dubstep through Mala’s music in a Leeds club backroom in 2005, he helps start Ruffage, described as Leeds’ first dubstep night, and then moves into studio work.

Hessle Audio

McAuley becomes an established DJ and producer by 2009 and co-owns Hessle Audio with Ramadanman and Ben UFO. The label releases a group of records that become associated with progressive dubstep and techno, including TRG’s Broken Heart, Ramadanman’s Blimey, Pangaea’s Coiled EP, Router and You & I, as well as material by Untold and Martyn.

Style and reputation

His work is identified with dubstep, EDM, electronic and post-dubstep, with tags also placing him in experimental, bass and techno territory. He attracts bookings across Europe and builds a reputation as a DJ behind the decks. Mary Anne Hobbs describes his BBC Radio 1 mix as one of the most exquisite mixes of the year and praises its texture and beauty.
