Pamela, also known as Pamela Spence, is a Turkish pop-rock singer from Heidelberg, Türkiye, born in 1973. She is popularly known in Turkey by her first name only. Her repertoire includes English and Turkish material.
Early life and training
Pamela is born in Heidelberg to a British American father and a Turkish mother. She learns Turkish at the age of 15 after her family moves to Turkey. She studies Theatre Arts at the Ankara State Conservatory.
Stage and television work
She first comes to attention in a musical version of They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? staged in Turkey, performing alongside Okan Bayülgen and Fikret Kuşkan. She later appears in the television miniseries Lahmacun ve Pizza.
Music career
Alongside her solo work, Pamela collaborates with several Turkish singers, including Teoman, and also takes part in Teoman’s group of vocalists. Her debut album, Eğer Dinlersen, follows a long period of preparation. On her second album, Şehir Rehberi, she moves towards a style closer to rock than the pop sound of her first record. The song İstanbul from that album attracts particular public attention for its lyrics. Her third album, Cehennet, is produced in 2006.
