Paint
Paint is a German artist name used by several different acts, including a solo project by Pedrum Siadatian of Allah-Las, a Toronto indie rock band, a US band associated with Lorelei, an American electronic bass music duo, and a four-piece from Fremantle, Western Australia. The name also appears in psychedelic rock and indie contexts.
Pedrum Siadatian’s project
One Paint project is the solo work of guitarist and singer Pedrum Siadatian, known from Allah-Las. He starts the project by four-tracking his own material after Allah-Las’ third album Calico Review. The music is described as slow-growing and deliberately unfinished in feel, with comparisons made to the looser end of psych-folk and psychedelic singer-songwriters such as Kevin Ayers and Syd Barrett. The project also serves as the title of Siadatian’s first solo album.
Toronto indie band
Another Paint is a Canadian indie band from Toronto, active from 2009. The group releases debut album Can You Hear Me? in 2009 and follows it with Where We Are Today in 2011. That second album is recorded and produced by Ian Smith with engineer Michael Chambers at Catherine North Studios, then mastered by Joe Lambert in Brooklyn, New York. The band tours extensively across Canada, plays about 200 shows from Vancouver to Halifax, and appears repeatedly at North by Northeast, Canadian Music Week, Indie Week, Hamilton Music Awards and New Music West. It is also voted a listener favourite on 102.1 The Edge and named among the top acts of 2012 by The Toronto Star. Its sound is influenced by Britpop and New Wave, with pop hooks, energetic live performances and a more mature, intricate approach on the second album.
Other acts using the name
A US Paint from 1994 is listed with a female singer from Lorelei. Another Paint is an American electronic bass music duo made up of producers Huxley Anne and Tsuruda. A separate Paint from Fremantle, Western Australia, forms in 2020 as a four-piece making noisy pop with DIY influences, coming-of-age films, skateboarding and nature; it releases three singles and a five-track EP called Bugs, and its songs mix soft melodies and tongue-in-cheek lyrics with loud, washy guitars and a live energy that shifts between bedroom pop and punk.
