P Money

P Money is a grime MC associated with South London. He begins his career in the crew Fatal Assassins, alongside MCs including Little Dee and Blacks, and comes out of the Blue Borough area. He is known for a fast, skippy flow and for building a reputation through pirate radio appearances and classic studio sets, including the Hazzardous Sessions series and Fuck Radio Volume 5.

Early releases and crew work

He is later part of the crew OGs and appears on the group’s first release, OG Season. His first solo project is the free download Coins 2 Notes, released at the start of 2008. That release features producers such as Rude Kid and Joker, along with a range of MC guests. It is followed in September 2008 by two more projects: the free download A Little Back Then With Now, which includes MCs such as Little Dee, Desperado and Tempman and production from Skepta, Dot Rotten and Wiley, and the debut shop release P Money Is Power.

P Money Is Power includes MCs such as Blacks, Ice Kid and Little Dee, with production from Dot Rotten, Crayzee Bandit and Mr Slash. It features tracks including “Sounds and Gimmicks”, a remix of “What Did He Say”, and “London Boy”, for which a video is made. “What Did He Say” is an earlier single that gains wide attention and is later issued on vinyl and as a digital download; the title is also used for a T-shirt slogan.

His second mix CD, Money Over Everyone, is released in September 2009. It features Wiley, Frisco, Blacks and Little Dee, with production from Silencer, Rude Kid, Scratcha, Maniac and others. Tracks mentioned from the release include “1UP”, “Fruits & Veg” and “Hot Ones”, the last of which features Blacks and Little Dee trading bars.

Radio work and style

P Money is known for frequent radio appearances and for being heard regularly on DJ JJ’s Rinse FM show in the early hours of Monday morning. His sets and releases are marked by a high-energy delivery, and his early work is especially associated with the fast, skippy style that creates attention in grime circles. He also appears on two Logan Sama sets from 2009.

The name P-Money also refers to a New Zealand producer and DJ who is a different artist, known for turntablism, production for Scribe and Deceptikonz, collaborations with Akon and others, and albums including Big Things, Magic City and Everything.
