Overthrone

Overthrone is a UK metalcore group active from 2018. The line-up includes Luke Hill.

Background

The group’s earlier history begins in 2005 as a metal cover project called Key Steel, formed by Ben Christ with Greg Zollman on rhythm guitar, Julian Minor on lead guitar, Dustin Anderson on bass, Robert Broaddus on drums and Christ on vocals. Key Steel plays once before Christ is unable to continue, and Anderson later leaves as well.

Before 2006, the remaining musicians form Exempt, with Zollman, Minor, Broaddus, Brantly Nall on bass and Ryan Preston on vocals. The group writes original material and performs it live. In 2007, Minor leaves because of a family matter that takes him out of state, and Nall also departs. Preston moves from vocals to guitar and vocals, while Broaddus brings in Jack Morley on bass.

The band then adopts the name Overthrone after performing under other names, including Disruptor. By early 2008, Ben Christ returns as the band’s mascot, “Overkeeper,” adding vocals and musical support at shows.

Line-up changes and later additions

Robert Broaddus leaves in late 2008 and early 2009. Ben Christ then suggests Luis Lopez as the replacement drummer. In mid-2009, Lopez joins after already knowing some Overthrone songs on drums. In 2010, Bryan Slaughter joins on keyboards.

The group is described in the bio as a thrash metal and power groove act, while its current listed genre is metalcore.
