Overoth

Overoth are a death metal group from Belfast, Northern Ireland. The band forms in late 2005 and plays a raw, no-frills style of death metal associated with old school death metal and the New Wave of Old School Death Metal. The group is active from 2005 to the present and consists of Daniel Dempster and Andrew Pennington.

Early releases

Overoth first appears on the live circuit after the release of the demo Pathway To Demise, which helps establish the band in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. In late spring 2007 the band records Death Personified at Komodo Studios. Rundown Records signs the band, and the release appears in November 2007, followed by a short tour of Ireland and the UK. One of the first significant support shows after the release is with Massacre and Extreme Noise Terror.

Live activity and touring

Overoth builds its reputation through frequent live work, with a tight and energetic performance style that earns respect from other bands. In 2008 the band plays widely, including what is described as the final Day of Darkness festival, where it shares a bill with Unleashed and Watain. The same year it performs with Obituary in Dublin and makes its first shows in Scotland alongside Cerebral Bore.

In 2009 the band tours Switzerland and Ireland with Shadows Far, then tours Sweden with Godhate and Volturyon. It also supports Origin on Irish dates, supports Onslaught, and appears at Low End Festival alongside Napalm Death and Primordial. Later that year it performs at Cork Winterfest with Grand Magus, Mael Morda and Hail of Bullets. A planned European tour is cancelled.

In 2010 Overoth releases its debut album Kingdom of Shadows and marks the release with a launch show in Belfast featuring Condemned and By Any Means. The band then tours Ireland, returns to Switzerland with Shadows Far and Sinister, supports Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Bolt Thrower and Rotting Christ on Irish dates, tours the UK and Ireland with Bloodshot Dawn, and plays Siege of Limerick. In 2011 it tours Ireland over Easter with Nihilo and later supports Hail of Bullets in Dublin.

Style and reception

The band is associated with an old school death metal approach and is described as evoking the Florida death metal sound of the early 1990s. Its performances are noted for confidence, precision and a militaristic execution. In 2012 the band is working on new material and planning to record again.
