Overmono
Overmono are a British electronic music group from Overmonnow, London, made up of brothers Ed Russell and Tom Russell. They are active from 2015 and bring together work from two established solo aliases: Ed Russell records as Tessela, and Tom Russell records as Truss and MPIA3.
Background
Before forming Overmono, both brothers build individual reputations as producers in UK underground electronic music. Under their solo names, they release music through labels including R&S, Perc Trax and their own Poly Kicks imprint. Their work includes Truss tracks such as “Kymin Lea” and “Beacon”, and Tessela tracks such as “Rough 2” and “Hackney Parrot”.
Overmono
Overmono is the first recording project in which Tom and Ed Russell work together. They begin the project after previously performing some live shows together but not writing music together. They start by travelling to a remote cottage in rural Wales near where they grew up, and that session forms the foundation for the group.
Style and context
The group sits within ambient, breakbeat, EDM, electronic and UK garage, and is associated with techno, hardcore and dance. Their collaboration draws on the pair’s separate histories while creating a new shared project.
