Over the Moon

Over the Moon is a Dutch group from Groningen, in the Netherlands. The band starts in the late 1990s and is driven by new wave and punk influences. Its line-up changes several times over the years and includes Barbara Feenstra, Henk Mulder, Anne van Slageren and Johan Sluiter.

Releases and development

In 2000 the band releases no undo on the Marista label. The album is recorded and produced by Frans Hagenaars. The music receives favourable reviews, and the band’s sound is compared with Jefferson Airplane, with Barbara Feenstra’s voice noted for its resemblance to Grace Slick’s.

After the album, Barbara Feenstra leaves and Klaske Oenema joins as singer and writer. This leads to the EP Zodiak tracks, which is recorded by Eric Bosma, a member of Onakentona. The songs on the EP move toward a more melodic and subtle style, shaped by Oenema’s voice.

Line-up changes and later work

The band continues to change personnel. Theo van der Laan leaves on drums and Rene laeven replaces him. Klaske Oenema later moves to Amsterdam and leaves as well. Christy Bagerman joins in 2004, and the band records a four-track demo, again with Frans Hagenaars producing.

In 2006 Christy Bagerman and bassist Johan Sluiter leave. The remaining members are later joined by Maria and Joris Smit, which leads to the recording of the EP To work at Studio Potsound, with Edwin Pot recording it. The band’s sound broadens through the use of more instruments, including trumpet and keyboard, and becomes more folk-influenced.
