One Otis is a five-piece rock band from Roosendaal in the Netherlands. The members have played together for years in bands including Stockholm Syndrome and Against Time. The group forms at the end of 2005 and plays its first show in 2006. It tours in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Spain, and shares bills with Coalesce, Nomeansno, Torche, NRA, Rise And Fall, Jello Biafra, Coliseum, Restless Youth, Born From Pain and Baroness.
The band releases a split 10-inch with Daily Fire in 2006, then issues its debut album Good Cop Bad Mood in 2007. It later puts out a limited split tape with The Unborn in June 2009, followed by the album Storm Is Coming a month later. This second album is the first part of a trilogy based on poems by Arthur Rimbaud, with Le Bateau Ivre from 1871 as its main theme. The band is compared in reviews to Helmet, Snapcase, At The Drive-In, Refused, Fugazi, Hot Water Music, The Melvins and Black Flag, and later also to Unsane, Botch, Drive Like Jehu, Minutemen, Dag Nasty and Breach. The closing 11-minute track draws comparisons with Zu, The Ex, John Zorn and Sonic Youth. The band is linked with Black Death Records and has an official website at hail-otis.com.
