OPIUO

OPIUO is an Australian electronica and breakbeat artist working in glitch hop, midtempo bass, and neurohop. His music draws on glitch, breakbeat, dubstep, funk, soul, psychedelia, and bass-heavy electronic styles.

Background and style

Born in rural New Zealand and now based in Australia, he grows out of the early electronic music scene in Aotearoa. He describes his upbringing as being closely connected to the land used for music festivals, and those experiences shape his focus on self-expression, dance, and large sound systems. His first name is Oscar.

Recording output

OPIUO releases music on Slurp Music. His catalogue includes four full-length albums, ten EPs, and a large number of singles and remixes. He also receives a New Zealand Music Award for Best Electronic Album in 2014.

Live work and projects

He tours internationally and plays major festivals and venues including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, and Coachella, and he also sells out Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. His live work takes several forms, including the self-built SYZYGY Orchestras, performances with symphony choirs, his Opiuo Band, and an immersive solo audio-visual show.
