OOOD
OOOD, also known as Out Of Our Depth, is a UK psytrance group that forms in Oxford in 1994 and stays active from then to the present. The act starts with Colin Bennun, Nigel Bradbury and Stephen Callaghan, and its current line-up includes Colin Bennun, Steve Callaghan, Ramsay Melhuish and Ryokan Potier. OOOD develops as a live band from the beginning, with performances built around DJ work alongside live drums, percussion, guitar and other psychedelic elements.
Live work and performance history
The group begins playing local events in Oxford before moving on to larger shows. Its first London appearance, at Otherworld, receives praise in Dream Creation magazine for its power and quality. OOOD also appears on the UK party circuit at Glade, Wickerman, Beat-Herder, Synergy Project, Tribe of Frog, Cabbage, Strange Daze, Return to the Source, Escape from Samsara and Pagan, among others. The band performs in a range of line-up combinations and plays internationally, including shows in New York, Japan, South Africa, Israel, the UK and Europe, with appearances at Fusion Festival in Germany, Omni Festival in Spain and the Vortex/Prism New Years Eve Festival in South Africa.
Releases and associated project
OOOD's first release appears on Phantasm Records in 1996. In the same year, the group's collaborative side-project Unconscious Collective releases 'Fluorostani Transcendance' on Flying Rhino, which becomes one of the label's biggest-selling tracks. The dancefloor material of OOOD and Unconscious Collective later combines under the OOOD name, while Unconscious Collective continues as a space for the group's more eclectic and often chilled-out output. The group is described as working with up to six people on stage, with musicianship central to both projects.
