Oona Dahl

Oona Dahl is an electronic music artist, DJ and producer from upstate New York. She begins making musical sketches in Acid Pro and Fruity Loops before turning to DJing after being drawn to the Toronto rave scene. Inspired by the DJs she hears there, she buys turntables and starts learning to mix records. By the age of 17, she is playing clubs, raves and warehouses.

Early development and move to Florida

In the early 2000s, Dahl moves to Florida for college, where she studies sound design and digital media. While there, she becomes involved in the underground scenes in Orlando, Miami and Tampa. During this period she meets DJ Monk of Rabbit In The Moon and DJ Three of Hallucination Recordings, forming a long-term connection with both.

Releases and labels

By 2012, Dahl’s music reaches DJs and dancefloors, leading to the release of the Let The Light In EP on Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream label. She then becomes a regular DJ on the All Day I Dream party series, often playing closing sets. She follows this with two EPs on Anjunadeep in 2018 and 2019.

Alongside her club-focused work, Dahl develops a more experimental and song-based approach, drawing on ambient and electronic influences such as This Mortal Coil, Bjork and Brian Eno. DJ Three signs her to an album deal on Hallucienda, where she releases the five-track Wait. lifted EP in 2017. The release includes a music video for the title track. Her debut album, Holograma, follows on the same label.

Later work and collaborations

Dahl continues to release music across several labels and styles. Her self-released Road to Awe EP appears on Bandcamp, and Godtripper is issued on Watergate Records. These releases feature deep, rhythmic production with acid elements and her vocal textures.

As Slumber, her collaboration with Amber Cox, she releases the XLR8R+ track “Fell Into A Dream” and the Twin Moon EP on Rumors. She also collaborates with Kirsty Hawkshaw, known as the voice of Opus III, on “Love Is All We Need” and later on “Serenity”.

Style

Dahl’s work spans leftfield house, techno, electronica, ambient-influenced song forms and indie dance. Her catalogue balances dancefloor tracks with more atmospheric and vocal-led material.

She also works under the collaborative name Slumber with Amber Cox.
