OOIOO

OOIOO is an experimental rock group from Osaka, Japan, active since 1995. The group is an all-female project founded by Yoshimi P-We, the Boredoms drummer who also performs at times as a trumpeter and vocalist. Its line-up includes Maki, Yoshiko, Kayan, mishina, Aya, YoshimiO and Ai.

The group is widely known as a side project connected to Boredoms, and its music shares some of that band’s broader experimental approach. OOIOO is also described as more accessible than Boredoms, with a tendency towards a more melodic space rock style associated with the later work of Boredoms.

OOIOO’s sound is associated with experimental rock, gamelan, neo-psychedelia, noise rock and psychedelic rock.
