Onur Özer is a Turkish DJ and producer associated with minimal, minimal techno, techno, electronic and tech house. He begins his career in Istanbul in the late 1990s, during a period when minimal and tech-house regain attention there, and he helps push against what is described as a stagnant club environment.

Early work in Istanbul

Özer works with vinyl and enters clubs in student clothes, focusing on dancing and on introducing new sounds to the city. He also helps found a number of new venues, contributing to the development of Istanbul’s club scene and to the circulation of contemporary electronic music in Türkiye.

Activity in Germany

In 2002 he starts to bring the Istanbul sound to different cities in Germany. He continues to play at venues including Robert Johnson, Harry Klein, Studio 672 and Kerosin. In 2004 he becomes resident DJ for the Sweet Sense party series, where he welcomes many international acts.

Releases

Özer moves further into studio work in 2005. His debut EP, Freakdisco, appears on Freude-Am-Tanzen, followed by the Envy EP on Vakant. He later releases Twilight on Vakant in 2006.

Recognition

Groove Magazine names him among its up-and-comers of the year, reflecting his growing profile within German electronic music circles.
