Formation and early attention
OneRepublic first attracts attention as an unsigned act on Myspace. After performing across Los Angeles in 2002, the group draws label interest and signs to Velvet Hammer, an imprint of Columbia Records. The band records its debut album with producer Greg Wells in 2005, but Columbia drops the group before the planned 2006 release.
Debut release and breakthrough
The lead single from the unreleased debut album, “Apologize”, comes out independently on Myspace and reaches number one on the platform’s charts. The album is later released in 2007 as Dreaming Out Loud. It includes the Timbaland-remixed version of “Apologize” and the follow-up single “Stop and Stare”. The record achieves international success and receives Platinum certification from the RIAA.

OneRepublic’s second album, Waking Up (2009), produces “All the Right Moves”, “Secrets”, “Marchin On” and “Good Life”. Their third album, Native (2013), becomes their highest-charting release at that point, and its single “Counting Stars” becomes a global hit, reaching the top five in many countries and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The band releases Oh My My in 2016, with collaborations involving Cassius, Peter Gabriel and Santigold. Earlier singles from that album include “Wherever I Go” and “Kids”. In 2017, OneRepublic issues a series of standalone tracks including “No Vacancy”, “Truth to Power”, “Stranger Things” with Kygo, and “Rich Love” with Seeb.
