One Machine

One Machine is a London-based thrash metal group active since 2010. The band is led by guitarist and songwriter Steve Smyth, whose background includes work with Testament, Nevermore, Forbidden, Dragonlord and Vicious Rumors. One Machine combines classic and modern metal influences and begins as Smyth’s own project, built around songs he had written over time and his aim to form a band around them.

Formation and lineup

Smyth puts together the line-up by selecting musicians who match the material. Mikkel Sandager of Mercenary joins on vocals, Jamie Hunt of Biomechanical shares guitar duties, Tomas “O’Beast” Koefoed, formerly of Mnemic, plays bass, and Michele Sanna plays drums. Raphael Saini of Chaoswave also appears as the drummer on the album. The current members listed for the group are Steve Smyth and Michele Sanna.

Recording and production

The album The Distortion Of Lies And The Overdriven Truth is recorded and produced by Smyth. Roy Z handles mixing, Alan Douches masters the record at West West Side Music, and artwork comes from Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media, with photography by Anthony Dubois. The project reflects the collaborative approach Smyth takes in shaping his original material with the other players.
