One Leg One Eye

One Leg One Eye is an Irish experimental drone and avant-folk project led by Ian Lynch, who is a founding member of the traditional music group Lankum. It begins as a solo outlet for Lynch and later becomes a duo with the addition of producer and multi-instrumentalist George Brennan.

Sound and approach

The project centres on the uileann pipes and other traditional Irish instrumentation, combined with elements associated with black metal, industrial noise and field recordings. Its music is built around slow-moving, immersive and often unsettling textures, with a strong emphasis on dark, mythic atmosphere.

Releases

Its first major release is …And Take The Black Worm With Me, a debut album made up of long-form drones and vocals recorded in abandoned locations, including a derelict factory in Dublin where Lynch’s father once worked. A second record, CRONE, continues the project’s interest in Irish mythology, history, folklore, obscure incantations and ancient mythologies, and moves further away from conventional song structures.

Themes

One Leg One Eye draws heavily on Irish mythology and folklore, and its material explores darker, more ritualistic sound worlds than Lynch’s work in Lankum.
