Olga Amelchenko
Olga Amelchenko is a Russian jazz saxophonist and composer who works in Berlin’s jazz scene. She is a member of the Musina Ebobissé Quintet.
Early life and education
Born in Russia in 1988, she begins singing in a choir at the age of five and starts learning piano and dombra two years later. From 2003 to 2006, she studies at the College of Music in Abakan. She then spends a year studying choir conducting before changing to saxophone.
In 2006, she moves to Novosibirsk to study jazz at the College of Music there. After graduating in 2010, she takes classical saxophone lessons to broaden her knowledge of the instrument.
Career
In 2012, she moves to Cologne and studies for two years at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz with Wolfgang Engstfeld. From 2014, she continues her studies at the Jazz Institut Berlin, with teachers including Peter Weniger, Greg Cohen and John Hollenbeck.
Her work draws on study, concerts and tours across Europe, and she combines collaborations with her own projects within Berlin’s jazz environment.
