Old Corpse Road
Old Corpse Road are a Darlington-based six-piece black metal band formed in 2007. Their name comes from a coffin road in the Lake District, and their music is rooted in British folklore, combining black metal with melodic passages, serene and haunting sections, and a wide vocal range that includes shrieks, guttural lows, spoken word, and folk singing.
Style and themes
The band’s sound moves between fierce black metal and more atmospheric or melodic material. They present a distinctly British form of black metal and draw heavily on dark folklore from Britain. Their work is associated with black metal, atmospheric black metal, folk black metal, folk metal, and British metal.
Releases and recognition
Old Corpse Road release an acclaimed demo and a split with The Meads of Asphodel before their debut album, 'Tis Witching Hour…As Spectres We Haunt this Kingdom, in 2012. That album receives critical praise from Metal Hammer, Zero Tolerance and Terrorizer, and it tops the Best Newcomer category in the 2012 Terrorizer Readers' Poll. They also release a split 7-inch with The Infernal Sea.
Live activity and associations
The band build a reputation for intense, atmospheric live performances across the UK. They share stages with Shining, Alcest, Hecate Enthroned, Winterfylleth and Wodensthrone, and they return to Bloodstock after appearing on the New Blood Stage in 2010.
