Oka Vanga

Oka Vanga are a UK folk and roots guitar duo made up of Angela Meyer and William Cox. They form in 2008 and work as an acoustic pair drawing on fingerpicking, folk, flamenco and metal influences, with rhythms from different parts of the world. The group are described as playing a complex, high-energy style of guitar music built around instrumental performance.

Members

Angela Meyer, also known as Angie, originates from Cape Town in South Africa and has a background in classical guitar, acoustic freestyle and flamenco. She builds a reputation on the South African music scene before moving to London, where she forms Oka Vanga with William Cox. Cox is a respected folk guitarist and a multi-instrumentalist.

Performances and releases

Oka Vanga appear at folk clubs and festivals, including Rhythms of the World Festival, St Albans Festival, Off the Tracks, The Bythams Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at The Space and Make It For Africa, Randall Rootz, Herts County Show and Stortford Music Festival. Their first album, Baobab Jungle, is sold through an independent music retailer and receives local radio play on Ten 17 Radio and SaintFM Radio.
