OJay is a solo bass player, looper and experimental soundscaper from Newcastle. He builds layered bass pieces with effect pedals, working with or without beats, and moves between funky psychedelia, improvisation and shifting instrumental textures.

Career

He busks on the streets of Newcastle and has done so for over ten years, becoming a familiar presence in the city centre. He is known locally as “The Awesome Bass Guy”. He also plays solo gigs across the country in venues and at festivals.

Projects and activities

OJay hosts a monthly improvisation jam night at Bar Loco in Newcastle. He teaches bass guitar and has run music workshops for children and adults. He is finishing a BA in Performance Industries at Wolverhampton University.

Dust Junkys

He is also reunited with the Dust Junkys, who have returned after being disbanded for more than ten years and are touring again while writing new material.
