Ohms
Ohms is a name used by three separate acts.
Franco Colon’s Ohms
One version of Ohms is the production name of songwriter and engineer Franco Colon, who also works as xfrancox and is one half of the project Spaces. This Ohms project starts in Brooklyn, New York in 2008. Its music is described as electronic, electroacoustic and, at times, experimental. A Myspace profile exists for the project under the name resistivity.
Santa Cruz OHMS
A second OHMS is a Santa Cruz-based band whose name refers to the unit of electrical resistance. The group combines hard-rocking jam-band elements with singing-led songwriting. Its line-up includes Cinnamon Camo on vocals and lead guitar, Ben Camo on vocals and lead guitar, Steve Parker on drums and Grant Kappen on bass guitar. The band receives comparisons to The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane. It receives praise from blues musician Robert Lowery and Sam Andrew, who is known for playing with Janis Joplin in Big Brother and the Holding Company. OHMS performs at venues including The Catalyst, the World Famous Brookdale Lodge, the Cactus Club, Moe’s Alley Club, the Galaxy Club and Studio Z, and appears at events such as the Santa Cruz Wharf to Wharf and the Boulder Creek Art and Wine Festival. It also has a full-length video made up of five songs from its debut CD, which airs on the television programme Musician’s Weekly, and it receives radio play on KMBY and KPIG.
Allen Epley and Jason Gerken’s Ohms
A third Ohms is a one-song project from 2003 involving Allen Epley and Jason Gerken of Shiner. It is created for a cover of Journey’s “Anytime” on the tribute release No Escape - A Journey Tribute. For the recording, Epley handles keyboards, guitars and bass, while Gerken plays drums. The rest of Shiner are not involved, and the name Ohms is used for this separate recording only.
