Oh Pep!

Oh Pep!

Oh Pep! is an Australian duo from Melbourne made up of Olivia Hally and Pepita Emmerichs. Hally sings and plays guitar, while Emmerichs plays violin and mandolin. The pair meet at music secondary school in Melbourne, where they share an interest in songs that do not follow fixed boundaries or expectations.

Releases

The group first issues three EPs before releasing its debut album, Stadium Cake, in 2016. The album also wins The Age Music Victoria Award for Roots Album of the Year. A second album follows in 2018.

Performances and touring

Oh Pep! begins touring in Australia and then internationally from early 2015. The duo appears at CMJ, SXSW, Primavera, Glastonbury and the Americana Music Festival in Nashville, and performs on Seattle’s KEXP and NPR’s Tiny Desk. In Europe, the group supports Lake Street Dive and Basia Bulat, and in North America it tours with Nathanael Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Lord Huron, Mountain Goats and Valerie June.

Reception

KCRW identifies the group as a standout at CMJ, while NPR’s Bob Boilen describes its music as infectious and notes its sweet harmonies and lyrics that are thoughtful, deep, funny and poetic.
