Oh! Gunquit

Oh! Gunquit are a London-based group whose sound brings together rumble-bop, freakabilly, raw rock and roll, garage rock, surf punk, psych-surf, garage-punk, exotica and rock and roll. The band starts in 2010, when Tina, who sings and plays trumpet, and Simon, who sings and plays guitar, become neighbours and begin going to the same cellar dance nights in London. From that starting point, they form the band around a blend of new-wave, psych-surf, garage-punk, exotica and rock and roll.

The group takes its name partly from Ogunquit, a town in Maine that is known as an artists’ colony and was originally named by the Abenaki, and partly from the idea of “all guns quitting”. Their line-up changes over time, and the group describes itself as a cosmopolitan line-up with members from Italy, the USA, Colombia, Spain and the UK.

Oh! Gunquit’s live shows feature howling vocals, horns, buzzsaw guitars, rumbling toms and a heavy emphasis on exotic rock and roll energy. Their music is described as a soundtrack for B-movies, road trips and adventure.
