Odradek

Odradek is a name used by several different acts. One is a German solo project from Lübeck, based around electronica, industrial and experimental music. Another is an experimental rock and shoegaze project from Puerto Rico. A third is a Brazilian trio from Piracicaba, São Paulo, working in math rock and post-rock.

Germany

The German Odradek is an artist from Lübeck and the founder of the dark electro band Inscape, which has notable success at the start of the century. The project begins as a solo work and takes its name and initial concept from Franz Kafka’s short story The Worries of a Householder. Although it starts with a strong literary focus, it develops into a broader art project that includes literary, musical and visual elements. Its work centres on expression and interpretation, and its sound combines IDM, electronica and industrial with electronic soundscapes, melodic hook lines, soundtrack-like instrumentals and spoken lyrics. Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rican Odradek is an experimental rock and shoegaze act. Its lineup grows from a solo or two-person beginning into a group with drums and bass: Joshua learns drums and joins Dario and Lorraine, and Roberto later joins on bass.

Brazil

The Brazilian Odradek is a trio from Piracicaba, São Paulo. The group consists of Caio Gaeta on drums, Fabiano Benetton on guitar and Tomas Gil on bass. Its music draws on math rock, post-rock, punk, progressive and experimental styles. The trio follows its Homunculus trilogy, records the split Sun Seeker with the Singapore band Sphaeras, and later releases Pentimento on the Sinewave label.
