Odesza
Odesza is an electronic production group from Seattle, United States, active since 2012. It centres on Harrison Mills, who records as Catacombkid, and Clayton Knight, who records as BeachesBeaches. The pair meet in their senior year of college and spend the summer after graduating from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, working together on an album.
Early releases
In 2012, Odesza self-releases a free LP, Summer’s Gone. The record combines dreamy melodies, glitched vocals, crisp drums and large basslines. In 2013, the duo follows it with the debut EP My Friends Never Die.
In Return and award recognition
Their second studio release, In Return, appears in 2014 and brings wider attention to the group. A remix of the single “Say My Name” by RAC earns Odesza its first Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical at the 58th Grammy Awards.
A Moment Apart and later profile
Odesza releases its third studio album, A Moment Apart, in 2017. The album reaches number 3 on the Billboard 200 and tops the Top Electronic/Dance Albums chart. Its lead single, “Line of Sight,” is nominated for Best Dance Recording, and the album is nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 60th Grammy Awards in 2018.
Style and classification
The group is associated with chillwave, electronic, future bass, indietronica and progressive house.
