Odd Crew

Odd Crew are a Bulgarian alternative metal band from Sofia. The group forms in 1998 and remains active. It begins as a band of long-time friends: Vassil Raykov on vocals, Vassil Parvanovski on guitar, Martin Stoyanov on bass and Boyan “Bonzy” Georgiev on drums. The members are 12 years old when the band starts, apart from Bonzy, who is 8.

Early years as Kaskadiori

Before adopting the name Odd Crew, the band records three albums as Kaskadiori. Across those releases, their sound changes from blues-oriented hard rock toward a heavier sludge metal direction. The group later states that its music is shaped by bands such as Pantera, Black Sabbath, Down and Crowbar.

Change of name and English-language material

The name changes to Odd Crew after the band’s fourth album, We Are What We Are, which is self-produced. At that point the songs are written in English, prompting the new name. The band continues under that identity with a style described as groove and southern metal, while also fitting within alternative metal.

Recordings and notable songs

In 2010 the band records its second album as Odd Crew, A Bottle Of Friends. It is described as faster and heavier than earlier material. The first single, We Won’t Betray Ourselves, receives a strong response from fans and reaches the top of the Bulgarian Z-Rock Top 40 chart. The album is presented with two sold-out shows in Sofia and followed by a country-wide tour.

Among the notable tracks on We Are What We Are are We All Die, which is dedicated to Bulgarian drummer Petar Slavov, I Ain’t Losing Myself, and the faster songs Monkey Pride and Piller Confusion.

Style and approach

Odd Crew are described as keeping close ties with their audience and focusing on heavy music rather than commercial success. The band also supports the Bulgarian underground scene. An earlier name associated with the group is Ex Каскадьори.
