Oberhofer
Oberhofer is an indie pop group from Brooklyn, United States, active since 2008. The project begins as the recording work of Brad Oberhofer, who moves from Tacoma, Washington to New York City and studies music composition at New York University. The act takes its name from him, and the name remains in use even as the lineup changes over time. The current members are Brad Oberhofer, Ben Roth, Matthew Scheiner and Pete Sustarsic.
Early releases and label work
Brad Oberhofer writes and records all of the music himself, while bringing in other musicians for some tracks. The project self-releases its first single, o0Oo0O0o, in 2010. It then tours with Sleigh Bells, Neon Indian and The Morning Benders, and follows with the singles Away Frm U and I Could Go in 2011. These recordings lead to interest from White Iris Records, which releases Gotta Go/Mahwun later that year. Oberhofer then signs with Glassnote Records for its debut album.
Time Capsules II and live performances
Work on Time Capsules II begins in the studio with producer Steve Lillywhite, who wins a Grammy Award. Brad Oberhofer records vocals and most of the instrumental parts himself, with bandmates and other instrumentalists added where needed. Glassnote releases Time Capsules II in the United States in 2012. In the build-up to that release, the band performs Away Frm U on the Late Show with David Letterman.
Oberhofer also plays widely on the club and festival circuit in support of the album. Notable appearances include the Mojave Tent at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2012 and the Budweiser stage at Lollapalooza in Chicago in the same year.
