OB1

OB1 is a producer and DJ from New Zealand working across electronica, rave, hard techno, industrial techno and drum and bass. The name is used by more than one act, but this project centres on the collaboration between Ofer Dikovsky, also known as Oforia, and Bertin Katz, also known as B-wicked.

Background and members

Ofer Dikovsky is an Israeli musician and studio producer with a long career in the global electronic and trance scene. His work begins in the 1990s and includes nine studio albums, several of which are described as reference points in the development of trance. He also takes part in side projects and remixes work by other artists, and his releases are supported by extensive touring.

Bertin Katz is a multi-talented musician and multimedia artist. He is also known for his 2006 album Chill Da Funk Out, which is described as a notable chill release of that year and well regarded by electronic music magazines and reviewers.

Sound and key releases

OB1 develops a hybrid style that combines electronic music with rock elements. The collaboration grows out of the track “Return of the Machines”, from Ofer Dikovsky’s 2006 album Inner Twist. That track features Katz, with strong lyrics, guitars and alternate beats, and it helps establish the project’s blend of rock and electronic music.

The track is followed by a video and gains success within the trance scene and some mainstream media attention. After a year of studio sessions, OB1 completes the album Dream Dictionary. The project also plans an EP titled Behind the Wheel, described as containing five songs built around electronic, dance and rock combinations, with vocals, electro-beats and guitar riffs.
