nz shapeshifter is a drum and bass group from Christchurch, New Zealand, active since 1999. The act works in electronic and liquid funk, and is identified as a New Zealand drum and bass outfit.

Line-up

The group includes Redford Grenell, Darren Mathiassen, Dan McGruer, P Digsss, Nick Robinson, Sam Trevethick and Devin Abrams, with Hooves also listed among the members. In the group’s core live line-up, P Digsss handles vocals, Devin Abrams plays sax, keys and synths, Sam Trevethick plays guitar, synths and sampler, Nick Robinson plays bass, synths and MPC, and Johnny Hooves plays drums.

Sound

Shapeshifter combine drum and bass with elements of dub, jazz, hip-hop, metal, funk and electronic music. Their music is described as being performed live in a drum ’n’ bass format rather than as a purely studio-based electronic project.
