Nyra is the alias of Ryan Davis, a UK electronic artist from Sheffield who is based in London. He first appears in 2008 and develops a sound centred on house and techno, with a direct, rhythm-led approach aimed at the dancefloor.
Music
Over the years, Nyra builds a discography of stripped-back house and techno. His releases draw support from labels including Never Learnt, Elastic Dreams and Secretsundaze. His work also attracts support from Jackmaster, Midland, Jacques Renault, Annie Mac, Ben Sims and Krankbrother.
He launches his own imprint, Canoe, with Oushe, a producer and former Red Bull Music Studio employee who is also a long-time friend. His earlier material establishes a reputation for practical, effective club tracks rather than elaborate production.
Live work and clubs
Nyra plays widely across Europe, with appearances at Fabric in London, Sonar and ADE. In 2016 he appears at Carl Cox’s Music is Revolution party in Ibiza and on the Terrace for Sundays at Space.
Downlo and Sheffield
Alongside his music career, he founds the Sheffield warehouse party Downlo at Dan Sane. The party hosts figures including Marcel Fengler, Norman Nodge, Ben UFO and Baby Ford, and helps pave the way for Sheffield venue Hope Works.
Cycling and return to music
After a five-year break from music to focus on professional cycling, Davis returns to the scene after reaching the top of the sport in the UK. During that period, he moves through the ranks with increasingly strong professional teams before resuming his music career.
