Nusantara Beat
Nusantara Beat is an Amsterdam-based group active since 2021. It works with keroncong and pop elements, and presents itself as a contemporary project shaped by Indonesian musical traditions.
The group includes Michael Joshua and Rouzy Portier. It also draws on musicians associated with Dutch acts including EUT, Jungle by Night and Altin Gün.
Nusantara Beat focuses on Indonesian sounds while reworking them in a modern setting. Its stated aim is to reflect the diversity of Indonesian music and to carry those traditions forward through new arrangements and contemporary interpretation.
The group releases its début single, Djanger, in April 2023.
