November are a rock band from Stockholm, Sweden, active from 1969 to 1972. The group forms around Christer Stålbrandt and Björn Inge, with Richard Rolf also part of the original line-up.
They play hard rock, heavy psych and progressive rock, with a sound partly shaped by American acid rock. Their music is heavy and blues-based, and is often compared with Cream, Mountain and Led Zeppelin. November is also one of the first Swedish rock bands to use Swedish lyrics, with many of the words written by Stålbrandt and influenced by 1960s flower power.
History
The band takes its name from a successful show opening for Fleetwood Mac in Gothenburg on 1 November 1969. Despite performing in Swedish, they gain popularity in England, where audiences sometimes ask for the songs to remain in Swedish even when the lyrics are translated for touring there.
November split up in 1972 after the release of 6:e November. After the band ends, Christer Stålbrandt moves on to Saga, Björn Inge joins the jazz rock group Energy, and Richard Rolf becomes one of the founding members of Bash before later joining Nature.
Later release
A live album, Live, appears in 1994 and is recorded during the band’s 1971 tour.
