Notts Alliance
Notts Alliance is a British vocal group associated with the Nottingham Traditional Music Club, where the name first applies to the group running the club through the 1970s and 1980s. An early line-up records six members and appears on the 1972 LP The Cheerful Orn, though none of the current members take part in that recording.
Formation and membership
The club closes in 1989, but the present group remains together. The original six members include the current four singers, together with Dave Bissitt and Ian Smith. Ian Smith later moves to Kent and records a CD with Keith Kendrick called Nautical - but Nice, with Notts Alliance contributing backing to that release. Dave Bissitt later leaves to live in Wales, taking his baritone voice with him.
Style and activity
At one stage the group uses a range of instruments alongside unaccompanied harmony singing. From 1995, the instruments are phased out and the group focuses entirely on harmony singing.
Performances
Notts Alliance appears at clubs and festivals including Sidmouth, Whitby, Beverley, Fylde and Holmfirth.
